Dionis, situated on the North shore to the west of town, is a great area for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of town and mid-island. Dionis vacation rentals are popular with families and those who like to relax all day at the beach. Many of the rental homes in this area are large and have expansive yards that are great for family fun, cookouts, and stargazing. Along Eel Point Road as you are heading west through Dionis, there are a few beach access roads that give way to beautiful white sand beaches. The first beach is aptly named Dionis Beach, and has a small parking lot with restroom facilities and vending machines. A short, shell-lined path leads to a lifeguarded area that is great for little ones. The water is warm and shallow and like other north shore beaches, often sees a sandbar with the ebbing tide. A little over a mile further down and onto the dirt part of Eel Point Road is a beach called 40th Pole. With an Over Sand Permit, four-wheel drive vehicles can drive up a soft, sandy road through a break in the dunes and emerge onto a wide beach. The best way to enjoy this beach is to arrive mid morning and set up camp with chairs, umbrellas, blankets, and beach games. Break out the coolers and grills in the afternoon and cook up lunch while enjoying an ice cold beverage. Wait till other beachgoers leave later in the day and take a few evening casts for bluefish or bass.

If you’re looking to connect with nature in other ways, Dionis has some great hiking trails. Also on Eel Point Road is the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, which owns over 80 acres of land adjacent to the head of Long Pond. Along the mile-long hiking trail, you can observe numerous plant and animal species, some of which are endangered. Family and children’s workshops are offered in the summertime as well.

Dionis is a great spot that is far enough removed from busier island areas, but doesn’t take forever to get to. Renting or owning a home in Dionis means peace, quiet, and beautiful sunsets. On a clear day, you can even see Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.
